We'll start with the bummer news. Veronica had a manic episode last month and was hospitalized for a little over a week. Although the whole thing was tragic in a lot of ways, the silver lining is that this episode was far less intense than previous scares and the recovery process has been a lot more manageable. V is still processing everything, but she is already back to work and playing shows, which is a HUGE blessing and a testament to the remarkable amount of work she puts into her self-care during periods of stability, her amazing use of positive coping skills during each crisis, and of course her huge and loving support system.
As for me and my fam, dad just reached a huge career achievement. Mom is still struggling with her health. I go home for visits every few weeks and I have to say I am grateful for the opportunity work on improving our relationship. As shitty as the circumstances are, and as limited as that time may be, I know a lot of people don't get that chance. There's still love there and that makes me happy.
On the creative front, we played our very first show of the year at BellyUp for the fine folks of Banding Together. It was a grand time! Our next local show will be at Java Joe's this Friday as part of a songwriter showcase. We've got a few trips to TX and UT coming up, but other than that we're laying pretty low this year working on our respective solo albums and writing/rehearsing to finish up material for The Lovebirds' fourth album. Make sure you check out the calendar if you want to see us play live - if you blink, you might miss us this year! Veronica is also working hard to finish her book, and I just turned in a submission to participate in the Outfest Screenwriting Lab, so we'll keep you posted on those endeavors as well!
